The VMI Titan 8 and Titan 10: Built for Performance

At the heart of the VMI Titan 8 is a powerful 10-inch (250mm) suction and 8-inch (200mm) discharge pump, capable of handling large volumes of material with ease. The Titan 10 features an even larger, more productive 12-inch (300mm) suction and 10-inch (250mm) discharge pump for moving increased volumes of material.  The Titan 8 boasts an impressive 375 horsepower (280 kW) diesel engine for the power needed pump high volumes at long distances. The Titan 10 features either a 509 horsepower (380kW) or 536hp (400kW) diesel engine, depending on engine selection, to handle the most demanding dredging applications.  Both the Titan 8 and Titan 10 feature a high-power cutter drive ready to supply the cutter head with plenty of power to rip and tear through tough materials.  The spiral blade cutter head scoops and carries material toward the suction intake pipe after loosening or breaking it up from the bottom surface.

Key Features of the Titan 10

Comfortable Wide View Cab

The Titan 8 and Titan 10 feature a spacious, full view cab.  Full view is visible through the glass front and side doors of the control cab.  This offers excellent operator visibility around the dredge.  A fully adjustable seat and arm rests with fingertip controls are provided for operator comfort to reduce fatigue.  The cab is mounted on isolators to reduce vibration and noise during operation. A buddy seat is installed for training.  Sun shades, a stereo, inside dome lights, and a refrigerator to keep food cold add to the list of comfort features.  

 

Dual Acting Boom Cylinders

The Titan 8 and Titan 10 may be equipped with dual acting boom cylinders, providing power both up and down, for digging depths up to 27.5 feet (8.38 meters). This feature allows for additional force to be applied downward on the cutter head, ensuring more efficient digging, even in tough, hard mate­rials. This added power down makes the Titan 8 and Titan 10 incredibly effective in a variety of sediment conditions.

 

Rack and Pinion Spud System Option

VMI’s innovative rack and pinion drive system gives the spuds power both up and down. This capability allows the spuds to be driven deep into the ground, providing superior stability and holding power during operation. The ability to anchor the dredge firmly enhances the precision and effectiveness of the dredging process, especially in challeng­ing environments.

 

Free Floating Spud Option

For operations in areas with fluctuating water levels, the Titan 8 and Titan 10 offer a free floating spud option. This feature allows the spuds to enter a free sliding mode when the dredge is not in use, accommodating changes in rising or falling water levels without compromising stability or position.

Suction Intake Valve Option

For enhanced productivity and maximizing material intake an optional suction valve is available to automatically regulate the slurry intake of the dredge.  The suction intake valve regulates the amount of water being mixed with the material to avoid overloading the pump or discharge pipe with material.  The suction valve helps maintain the proper balance of the slurry mixture while dredging to reduce fluctuations in the amount of material being pumped.

 

Tail Winch Option

An optional tail winch provides an alternative to spuds by anchoring the rear of the dredge at a greater pivot point away from the dredge for increased swing cut path widths.  The tail winch allows the ability to pull the dredge backwards if needed and makes mobility and positioning across the water much faster.  The tail winch may be used in conjunction with spuds to offer the benefits of both options if desired.

 

Configurable Features for Enhanced Capability

The Titan 8 and 10 are designed with versatility in mind, offering optional configurations to suit a variety of project needs. The standard configurable design allows you to assemble the dredges for maximum dredging depths ranging from 20 feet (6.1 meters) up to 50 feet (15.2 meters) for your specific project and needs. Different cutter head cutting edges provide the flexibility to suit the dredge to specific sediment types and digging requirements.
